Play time.

I have been playing around with an old piece of decking board and the fossil I was given last week.

I thought it needed to be stood upright for displaying. So after cutting a groove into the wood and gluing into place the wood needed some texture. 

After a bit of roughing up then stained.

Now for a few coats of wax and it will look better.

Natter night 29th August 2016.

My natter night was another good one enjoyed not only by me but all my visitors as well, not many trees but still a busy night.

Ken M brought his Oak tree for a trim and a de-weed .

Now a little more open.

Susan brought back her Cotoneaster after wiring it at home.

This was tweaked and trimmed a little more. This small tree will only get better over time.

Finally Andy's Flowering cherry was pruned and will be repotted in Spring.

Chinese Juniper.

My Chinese Juniper has changed quite a bit over the last couple of years as these photos show.

This was when I first purchased it.

About this time last year.

Now. this photo taken this morning.

Having removed the lower right hand branch last year it made the tree look much taller.

Dawn Redwood recover's.

In early spring my Dawn Redwood was severely hit by a late frost, which damaged all the new foliage. I was a little worried at the time about whether it would recover from this or not.

Worry over it not only recovered but has thrived as well. It now looks as good as it ever has.

Last weekend I was also given this quite old fossil, which has cleaned up very nicely.

 Even older than me.

Kokonoe White Pine update.

I had a little time today, so had a walk round the garden to check on the trees, my Kokonoe white pine seems to have acclimatized very well to it's new surroundings.  It is budding up all over which is a good sign that it is happy where it is.

I think this could be the result of the styling which opened up the foliage to allow light to get in better.

I can hardly wait for spring to come so I can do a repot into a nice pot.

Although not the best photo you can still see the new buds.

I am very happy with the progress of this tree.

Watering system.

The other week I discovered a new watering system for my trees.

It is a five year old system but works very well and his name is Alex.To see him doing the trees he knows the right way to do them and could teach some older people how to water properly.

He has now returned to Poland and seems as though he has adopted me and the mrs as grand parents as he did these drawings for us.

Shohin Juniper update.

I came across an old photo of this Shohin Juniper from about two years ago just after styling for the first time.

The basic skeleton.

This morning in the sunshine looking much better.

I think it will look even better in this nice Bigei pot.

Yesterday while up in Scotland I added two more pots to my collection.

I really like the base of this one.

A day out.

Today we had a run up north to Scotland to see Robert Porch and then on to Wattston Bonsai, despite the foul weather we still managed to enjoy it.

My car looked quite full for the journey home.

Dougie even gave us a guitar recital to brighten up our day.

When we arrived back at Boxie's home his new apprentice { Alex } gave us a hand to unload the car.

Bonsai Thursday with Dave.{ Early.}

As I have to be away tomorrow Dave came over today instead for our usual get together.

This Squamata juniper was the subject of the day.

After a clip out it is starting to look more refined.

Another good day having a good natter with Dave.

Natter night 15th August 2016.

It must have been the weather that brought everyone out tonight, as it was a very busy one, with ten visitors turning up.

Ken M  brought this Cascade Cotoneaster to refine a little.

After a little wire and clip it looks much neater.

Next is another Cotoneaster, this one belongs to Susan who wanted some advice about styling.

After I removed a couple of branches that were not needed I showed Susan which branches to wire, which she will do and then bring the tree back to be tweaked into place.

Another of Susan's trees, this one a Common Juniper was given a clip out to allow light in and create a better canopy.

Now thinned out the canopy looks a lot tidier.

Paul M brought this Pisifera Sulpher Spray just to remove the wire.

Finally this Azalea got some work done by Boxie to create a semi cascade, carefully does it as they are so brittle.

Starting to get there and looking nice.

As it was such a lovely evening most people worked outside in the garden.

Yet another good night.

Shimpaku juniper day.

If you read my last post you will see I had a bit of time today ,so I started to tidy my Shimpaku junipers.

I managed to get five done in all, a good days work.

This was the second of the day before any work.

After a little trim and clean up, it looks much neater.

The five trees are on the top shelf and are looking better now.

A good days work done.
