Natter night extra.

On Monday when we were blessed with a visit from Robert Porch he also brought some trees for me to have a play with over the next few weeks. As a result of this I will not be stuck for something to do on natter night for a while.

White Pine, another Larch and a privet behind.Ken M has already claimed the Pine for himself.

Two Common Juniper,Another Juniper at the back and a Scots Pine.

A small Spruce with a Scots Pine behind and a Chinese Juniper on the right.

Robert promised me a Squamata Juniper earlier this year and this is it.

A lot of wire and quite a bit of carving to be done, it will be a challenge, but I like a good one.
I can't wait to get home and get started.

Natter night 26th August 2013.

Sorry for the delay in posting but last night was one of the busiest nights since starting my Monday night get together.Busy yes, extremely enjoyable, definitely, why you may ask? Because we were visited by Mr Robert Porch for the first time, and not the last I hope,he is a very good stylist and talker on the subject of Bonsai and I cannot express how much I and everyone else who attended enjoyed our evening.

Peace and calm in the garden, all ready for the night to begin.

People starting to gather.

Robert took Dev and Margery on a critique of some of my trees, they probably learned a lot from this experience.

Robert doing a critique of Ken's Black Pine.

This was one of the best talks on Black Pine I have had and learned a lot of good information.

Robert also told how to improve this tree by altering the planting angle and rearranging the foliage.

This will work very well and will be done over the next few years.

The next critique on a Shohin Trident Maple belonging to Sue S.
Again loads of information coming from Robert.

Another one of Sue's Shohin, this time a root over rock Chinese Juniper.

Three rogues together.
I did not need a photo to remember this very, very enjoyable night, but wanted one anyway.

My sincere thanks to Robert for such a magical night.

Hurry back!!

Just a quick teaser for now, as to-night was somewhat special and I am knackered, so a full post will have to wait until tomorrow.

What has got the attention of everyone.

Novice workshop at Willowbog August 2013.

Today's workshop was well attended by five regulars and three new faces, which are always nice to see.
Peter did his usual pre/workshop talk about all the students main trees ,then we went to work.

The workshop starts.

Anthony's Juniper.

Brian's Hemlock.

Ian's Hemlock.

David 's Cotoneaster which had lost it's apex and needed some reworking to make a new one.

After wiring a back branch and moving up and forwards we split the bottom left branch into smaller pads.

Peter asked me to help new boy Phil with this Ceder which was bought from a garden center.
As Phil was a complete novice it was a case of back to basics to show him the way to work out the best for the tree, and also how to apply wire.I think it does us good to do this now and again as it refreshes our brains as well.

This is the tree about half way through the work.

This is the basic image we came up with. Not a bad skeleton to work with in the future.

Finally today's Tokanoma tree, one of Willowbogs Hemlocks.

Another good day which I really enjoyed.

A visit to David C.

I had a run out to see David C at his home today, well really to see his trees. He has some up and coming bonsai, which with a bit of work will look very good.

A nice Larch.

Scots Elm.

A nice Scots Pine, rather large as you can see from the spray bottle standing on the pot.

And lastly an Ivy, some where under there is a hotel, needless to say it has been empty for quite some time.

Thank you David for the hospitality.

Chinese Juniper update.

I have been cleaning up the trunk of my Chinese Juniper today, it not only looks better, but also allows you to see where the live veins are forming much easier, so enabling you to form Shari.

Well worth the time taken to do.

Natter night 19th August 2013.

Another quietish night with four visitors and not much to do ,so I started on Ken's Juniper forest again. All I intended to do was some more thinning out but got carried away and started to wire.

I only managed to get the left hand tree done to night but there is plenty time to do the rest.

One more thing I managed today was to extend the WiFi out to the studio, so now I can use the internet out there.Who knows where this might lead, on line natter night streaming, live as it happens. Hey I sound like I know what I am talking about. Maybe one day I will understand how this thing works.

Now all I need is a good web cam and someone to set it up and show me how to use it.

Once again thanks for visiting my blog.

Chinese Juniper update.

Here is the latest update on the Juniper I got from Wattston Bonsai earlier this year.

As it was when purchased.

Front, when potted in Spring.

The back at the same time.

The front now.

The back now.

It now has a better image to refine and develop, and hopefully become a very nice Shohin.

I want to ask a favor of the visitors to my blog, especially the ones from the USA. I am trying to trace two people who attended our wedding in July 1971. Here is a photo from that time.

Their names are Patrick Frick
 & Karen Cattani.
They were on a hiking tour of Europe when I met up with them and we became good friends. But we lost contact many years ago.

They were from the LA.area back in them days. but who knows where they are now.

Karen's parents owned a firm of maternity underwear makers called Cattani enterprises somewhere near Van Nuys.
Patrick was into Karate at the time.
I am testing the power of the internet to see how good it really is.
Can you help me by re posting this on your blogs, Facebook Twitter or anything else you use to see if  we can find them.

We would dearly love to rekindle our friendship from all those years ago.

My sincere thanks to all who help me find them.

Here it is .

Dawn Redwood  360 update.

Hope you enjoyed it.

Coming soon.

I am at the moment waiting for a video of my Dawn Redwood uploading but as soon as it does I will post it here on my blog

This is how it looked last year but it has had a very good season this year.

Natter night update.

Last night I promised you a photo of my Larch when I finished the tidy up, well here it is.

Back on the bench and looking a bit neater.
