Saturday 30 November 2019

A little bit cold.

An amazing sight this morning in the garden after a very cold night.
----------------------

As you can see I have put all my trees into their winter storage [ not ]

I like my trees to go through the natural process of  nature.

Chinese Juniper, with a little frosting.

Hinoki Cypress as well.

Squamata juniper.

I do however give them protection from excess water.

Bonsai Thursday.

Today was mainly a discussion day with Dave and Boxy about a Scots Pine.
----------------------------------------------------

It was discussed as to what should be the front of the tree and how it should be styled.

It was decided that it should be potted at a different angle and a change of pot.

This could be a new front.

A nice twist and old bark.

I also did some more work on the deadwood on this Itoigawa Juniper.

A good morning's work.

Natter night 25th November 2019.

A really good night once more, with some good work done and plenty of banter.
----------------------------------------

I think my visitors bring out the best in Boxy and myself in respect of departing with knowledge that we have learned over time.

Gibby and Bob still wiring.

After Gibby left Graham carried on learning.

Kevin was also wiring, this time on a Hornbeam.

Ken 2 brought back this Juniper to have some stronger wire added.

Which Boxy did.

I then tweaked it into shape, a nice starter image.

Ken M did some work on a nice Scots pine.

Kevin's Hornbeam, taking shape.

The Scots pine is almost wired now.

A very very good night.

A winter clean up of this Itoigawa juniper.
---------------------------------------

Weeds removed and a little wiring done.

Winter images.

Here are some photos of some of my trees after losing their foliage.

Hawthorn Group.

Hawthorn.

Acer Palmatum.

Berberis.

Dawn Redwood.

A good time to see the ramification.

Natter night 18th November 2019.

A very cold night but a very good warm atmosphere in the studio, plenty of banter and even some work done on trees.
------------------------------------------------
Boxy brought five assorted pines for some of the new boys to see.
Two Scots and one White.

A Japanese Black Pine.

Another Scots Pine.

With this one Gibby's tuition on wiring continued with Boxy.

Boxy was brought to his knees once again.

Meanwhile I did some work on this Juniper, brought along by another new boy, Ken.

After a tweak it now has some shape to be worked on for the future.

Another of Ken's trees, a small Chinese Elm was given a little trim and had some wire added to open up the canopy.

Now more open.

A good night's work.

Tuesday 12 November 2019

Natter night 4th & 11th November 2019.

Having been very busy over the last few weeks, I have not had time to do my normal Monday posts.
But now I am almost finished working on the new kitchen, I am back as usual.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

This Ficus belongs to Gibby's son Bob and was brought along to be transplanted into another pot, as the one it has been in had no drainage holes.

This was the pot.

The new pot on the right.

Tree and pot together, it should grow a lot better now.

Kevin's tree for tonight, a young Boulevard Cypress.

After wiring and a basic styling.

Boxy carried on with Ken's Pine.

Now looking much more open.

It was quite a full house last Monday.

Graham brought this Acer for some advice.

He got quite a lot off Boxy.

Last night I gave Gibby this Willow to practice wiring on as he has not done a lot. With guidance he learned a lot.

The tree after styling.

Meanwhile Graham and Boxy rewired this small Larch.

Then did the same with this Hornbeam.

Looks much neater now.

Hopefully I will have more time to post in the coming days.
