Bonsai Thursday.

Today Dave and I started to put together a group of Cotoneaster.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First one to be placed.

All in, there are many trunks but hard to see in photo.

They will be left to settle then styled at a later date.

Bonsai Wednesday.

Another day which has been mainly about watering again.
But as my previous post shows I did work on some trees.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

This Itoigawa juniper was looking a little unkempt , so I started to wire and trim it.

As it was so warm I worked in the studio with my only fan for company.

You have to keep cool when working on your trees.

A little more open now.

John was very busy outside.

He did bring a couple of young trees.
This first one a Pyracantha had the trunk wired and a little movement put into it.

As did this Juniper Comunis.

I then set the automatic watering system going. Thanks Tony saved me doing it yet again today.

Looks like we are in for the same heat again tomorrow.

Itoigawa Juniper refinement.

I spent a while this morning doing some refinement work on this Itoigawa Juniper and think it looks much better for it.

I have been watering.

I have just finished watering the trees ,for about the third time today. In this heat they are drinking loads of the stuff. Just as well I am retired as I have plenty of time to look after their needs.

These two junipers are getting close to being trimmed.

New look studio.

My studio has been given a new look.
------------------------------------------------------
I got hold of some new cloth to go around the benches.

A Scottish theme.

John's Malus air layer.

When Robert Porch was here yesterday I got him to have a look at John's Malus [ Crab Apple ] to see if it was ready to be removed. He said there were enough roots to sustain the tree, so today John came over and we severed the tree from below the air layer and potted it up.

This is the tree not long after the air layer was done.

The tree today before severing from the trunk.

The air layer.

Plenty of new roots to sustain good growth.

John will now keep it in shade for a few weeks so as not to stress it to much during the heat wave we are having.

Natter night 25th June 2018.

Hot Hot Hot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pizza and chips among the Bonsai was the way the evening started tonight

Then a new boy, Robert W, arrived with this very nice Itoigawa juniper.

I showed him how to clean all the dead foliage out and left him to it.

The next job was to show him how to apply wire, which he did very well for a first timer.

The tree now is starting to look more like a Bonsai. Robert is going to wire the rest of the tree at home then bring it back to be finished off.

Returning newbie Graham brought another Pine, also for a lesson on wiring, this time from Boxy.

Aided by Robert Porch, who graced us with a visit from Glasgow.

As it was very hot they went outside to do the tweaking.

Ken M brought another Juniper which he clipped out a little.

Then Robert P clipped a little more.

Yet another very good night's work, with good company.

Saturday night sunshine.

Today it has been a bit overcast but warm and dry, now the sun is trying to come out.
--------------------------------------------------------------

A look round the benches.

A nice evening to sit and watch the trees grow.

Hawthorn group.

My hawthorn group looks like it is ready for another trim.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two or three inches of new growth in just a few days.

Itoigawa Juniper.

Last night I did some work on this Itoigawa Juniper.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before work looking a bit untidy.

After cleaning and wiring , starting to look better.

Another bargain.

As it is raining once more I have been in the studio having a play around with this bar stool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can you do with a bar stool apart from sit on it?

Well my wife found this lazy-susan at the hospice charity shop and bought it for three pounds.
I have screwed it to the seat of the stool and now it is a good turn table at a nice height.

Still raining.

More pruning.

I have been doing a bit of pruning this morning on a couple of Junipers.

Common Juniper before trimming.

After a trim.

Common Juniper number two, before trimming.

After trimming and the weeds removed.
