Bonsai Thursday.

A bit of work done on an Itoigawa juniper today.
-------------------------------------

A new pot by Barry Somerville.

Also cleaned and coated with Jin seal.

Natter night 27th January 2020.

My Monday nights just seem to get better all the time, the enthusiasm of my visitors is making Boxy and I feel the same way.
-------------------------------------------
Graham's Larch ready to be wired.

There is a lot to do.

Bottom branch done.

Not quite finished, maybe next Monday.

Ken T brought back his Shohin Willow to show us how much new growth it has put on.

Just for size comparison.

Ken M, your Larch need to have foliage on before you can hide behind it.

Sunday 26 January 2020

Another one done.

I have been busy again this morning.
---------------------------------------------
Hawthorn over rock windswept.

This young tree had been fixed to the rock some time ago and planted on it's end in a deep pot.
Now it has been planted flat in a nice WSC pot.
Looking quite good.

Saturday 25 January 2020

White Pine.

Most people will say it is to early to be potting, but as I am retired and have the means to keep my trees frost free, I have done a slip pot into a Barry Somerville pot.
-------------------------------------------

No roots were cut in the potting.

It had been placed in a much larger pot to recover from being to wet.
The secret is to cover the soil with rubber and so control the amount of water it gets.

Thursday 23 January 2020

Bonsai Thursday.

We have had a play with this ceramic rock and some Junipers today.
---------------------------------------

Turned out quite good.

Wednesday 22 January 2020

New material.

I have just acquired some new material to work on to create  Bonsai from.
----------------------------------

Hinoki Cypress.

Tuesday 21 January 2020

Natter night 20th January 2020.

Even at this time of year my visitors are very keen to learn all there is to learn about the growing of Bonsai.
-------------------------------------------------
To say Kevin was pleased with the result of the work done on his Hornbeam is an under statement.

The tree in it's new pot by Barry Somerville.

Ken T brought this bit of a mystery tree, we are not sure what it is,

A close up of the foliage, can anyone help identify the species?

Graham's tree for tonight a nice Larch, needs a lot of wiring done.

It is very nice to see people having a good time as well as learning.

Friday 17 January 2020

Taxus.

Graham left his Taxus on Monday so I could do some work on the deadwood and do a little clean up.
-------------------------------------------------

Before work.

This morning after the work.

It will be wired and styled later in the year.

Tuesday 14 January 2020

Who's pot, the answer.

I asked who the potter is of this pot ?
--------------------------------------

My good friend Boxy.

Sorry the last time I called someone a good friend I got blocked off Facebook.

Special pot.

This is a pot by a relatively unknown potter.
---------------------------------------------

Can you guess who.

I will show answer tonight.

Natter night 13th January 2020.

It was a wild and very wet night, but my visitors still turned up and we had another really good night.
----------------------------------------------

Boxy brought this nice Scots pine for more wiring practice by the new lads.

Graham being closely watched by Boxy.

Partially done.

This Chinese Elm was the tree that got Gibby into Bonsai, as it happens and not having enough knowledge of how to care for it, it did suffer, so he contacted Boxy for advice.

Now back in good health, time to create an image, more wiring practice.

After a tweak and a slight clip it is looking good.

Ken M's tree, a very nice Larch.

Which had some wire removed and a little trim.

This Taxus was brought by Graham to be dewired.

Job done.

It has been said that Boxy and I are the Morecambe and Wise of the Bonsai scene.
More like Blackpool and thick.
Not saying which is which.

Monday 13 January 2020

Bonsai Pots 2.

Found another two from yesterday.
----------------------------------------
Bought off Robert.

A very nice WSC pot.

An equally nice Ian Baillie pot.

Thats all for now.

Bonsai pots.

It seems I did buy some pots yesterday as I found these ones this morning.
---------------------------------------

These pots are by Barry Somerville.

Beautiful glazes on these pots.

Thanks Barry

Sunday 12 January 2020

Ayrshire Winter image show.

Here I am back from the winter image show with the photos that I took there.
-------------------------------------------------------
First thing to do was set up my two trees.

Now for the rest of the trees on display.

Some Shohin trees.

Even more Shohin trees.

Even a Mame stand.

More Shohin.

Barry Somerville had some pots for sale.

Of course I did not buy any. These ones were just on the floor behind his stand.

Robert Porch also had some pots for sale.

My thanks to the organisers for a really good show and the caterers for the great soup and other food.
