Natter night 12th March 2018.

I spent a bit of time before anyone arrived to add some guy wires to my Dawn Redwood today, then did some fine wiring.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Taking shape.

Job done, looking really good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ken M brought two Cottoneaster's to be repotted.

Plenty of room now for the new roots.

This one needs a new pot as it did not like the cold weather.

A new one has been ordered.

Some good banter tonight, as always.

Redwood repot.

I thought it was about time to repot my Dawn Redwood as the buds are swelling quite a lot and the compost was getting getting hard and compacted.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some people will be thinking the compost looks ok and not ready to be changed, but at the start of winter I cleaned all the moss and weeds off then top dressed with fresh soil, so it did not become water logged.

The intended new pot by Ian Baillie.

A very good root ball.

Finished and watered in, then left in the sunshine to drain.

The end.

Hopefully we have seen the end of Winter, so I have decided to put most of my trees back on the benches.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
First one out, this Acer Palmatum

Nice to see the benches with trees on.

Bonsai Thursday with Dave.

After the dreadful weather last week, Dave and I had a lot to catch up with having had to cancel our get together.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
When he arrived I was in the middle of repotting this Juniper into a new pot.

I was very pleased with the look of the combination of pot and tree.

Natter night 5th March 2018.

It was nice to be able to get back to working with Bonsai again after the recent spate of bad weather.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andy P brought this Siberian Elm for a repot, as the buds are swelling quite a lot.

During the repot we also took the opportunity to tidy up the surface roots by removing some of the large and ugly ones.

Andy's flowering cherry had a little bit of trimming

A small quince with flower buds.

Ken's trees were next to have some work done.

This Rhododendron needed a new pot.

The old one was past it's best.

Lucky I had a one to replace it.

This Hawthorn had some wire removed and a little clean up of the surface weeds.

Looks a bit tidier.

This Cotoneaster had no work done.

Has the thaw started.

I have just been round the garden and it looks like the thaw has started.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really hope that spring is not too far away.

Some of my trees being protected.

Bonsai Thursday with Dave.

Due to adverse weather conditions, Dave and I decided to cancel our get together, so we could stay safe and warm.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like the gutters on the studio are full.

As is the entrance.
