A challenge.

I was given this small beech tree as a challenge to make it into an image for the future.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a bad start.

Bonsai Thursday with Dave.

Last week Dave and I discussed replanting a maple into a bigger pot and adding a small Rhodie as well, to add more interest. Today he brought a Rhodie his wife found in a local garden center.

------------------------------------------------------------

Try before you buy, looks like a good match.

The roots were not touched as both trees fitted into the new pot.
Placed into the pot on a layer of compost and tied in, then filled with fresh compost

A nice image for the future.

Natures way

One job I do not have to do to day is water my trees as nature has done it for me.

Nice piece of bogwood.

Just obtained this nice piece of bogwood today.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is just over thirty nine inches high and I am undecided as to what to do with it.
I could plant it up with trees just like a landscape or make a display stand.

Similar to this.

Natter night 2nd April 2018.

I am sorry for the delay on this post, as I was very busy over the Easter break.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stephen's Maple.
This small Maple was the first task for the night, as you can see it had been air layered last year amd now was the time to remove it from the tree.

Once removed this photo shows some very good roots.

The tree now looks more balanced.

The layered part also a nice small image.

Andy's Mugo.
This small pine was brought for it's start to become a Bonsai.

It was thinned out.

Then opened up to allow light in to allow some back bud's to develop.

Ken's Scots pine.
This pine was in need of a repot.

The root system was very compacted, so had to be opened up .

Ken prepared the pot with mesh and tying wires.

Returning the tree to the pot.

The final image, looking very nice.

It was a very good night with very good company and banter.

The tale of a Cotoneaster.

Tony W brought a Cotoneaster over as a challenge for me to try to create something a little different.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The trunk was very straight, so I added two of these bending clamps, which I am not very happy using, but when needs must .

Please excuse my artwork, but a rough sketch of what I saw in the tree.

The trunk was almost as straight as the wooden support.

After removing a lot of unwanted foliage.

Wired and looking a bit like my drawing.

Not a bad start to it's life as a Bonsai.

Yet another repot.

It really is potting time again, lets hope we have seen the last of the frosts until next winter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Chinese Elm was the latest to be given a new pot, as the old one had a crack in it.

Now in a nice oval pot and also a slight change of angle.

Susan was pleased with the work done.
