Dave's Crab apple has finally come into flower.

Trial run.

Today I had a trial run packing the car for Sunday and I think there will be enough room for every thing we are taking for the show.

Well the trees fit in.

I think in future a bigger car or less trees.

Ready for the SBA at Troon.

We have had a very busy week getting trees, and other things, ready for the Scottish National Show ot Troon on Sunday 6th May.

If you have nothing better to do this bank holiday weekend, come along to the show for a better view of the trees on display.

You could also pick up some bargains from the traders there. 

Bonsai Thursday with Dave.

During my Thursday morning with Dave we were having a look at the trees in the garden, when I noticed some bugs on a Maple.

Of these two Maples which are standing next to each other it is the one on the left that is infected.

These are the little bugs on the underside of the leaves.

After spraying this is where most of them are now. DEAD.

I will be keeping a close eye on the rest of my trees, as you should be, just in case any of the others are attacked the same way.

Getting trees ready.

I started getting trees ready for the SBA show next Sunday, a week or so back and it has been one problem after another.

The number one problem is with a Squamata juniper, which as most people will know are prone to die back of needles on the inner foliage.

As shown here, as a result there is a lot of work to be done to remove them.

They have to be taken off with tweezers, which is a time consuming job, but well worth the effort to make the tree look much better on the display bench.

My second problem is moss to cover the soil, I went out to my usual gathering places and nothing was there. It really must have been very dry around here as all the moss has died off so I think I will just have to top dress with a fine layer of fresh compost.

This Potentilla is just about to burst into flower once again.
