Bonsai Sunday.

I am getting to like having a son in law as today he came over and painted the display benches and the fence behind them for me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He saved me a lot of work and made a very good job of them. They look a lot tidier now.

The trees look like a woodland sitting on the tables.

This is better, back on the benches.

By this time the sun was going down.

Thanks Chris.

Cotoneaster.

This Cotoneaster is growing well and becoming a rather nice image.

Bonsai Thursday .

Today Dave and I had another look at a piece of bogwood I have had for a few months now and we have hatched a plan for the future.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the bogwood, it is almost three feet long and has a hollow in the mid section, just right for a tree to be planted in.

Next, the intended tree, a Procumbens juniper.

They will be brought together in the spring time.
So I have a bit of time to prepare the bogwood, which is just as well as there is a lot to do.

Wednesday Bonsai night.

Tonight was Berberis night as I said in a previous post, as everyone who has ever wired one will know they have very sharp thorns, so how to wire without getting stabbed ?
I have found a way to do it.
-----------------------------------------------

This is the tree before starting with lots of new young growth.

This is the method I have used, a piece of wire cut to length and twisted to leave enough to tie to a strong Jin.

By twisting tight around the Jin it is secure enough to spread the loop part over the young branches holding them in place.

As shown here.

Just three pieces of wire and most of the new foliage is in place.

Sorry not to clear in this photo, but you can get the idea.

The finished image for now.

Not one drop of blood was spilled.

You still have to be careful with the new growth as they break very easily.
But it worked for me.

Rock planting.

I have just transferred a rock planting to a better sized pot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The planting was put into this pot a while ago as it was the only pot I had that was big enough.

I recently got this Walsall Studio pot and it is the perfect size.

Planted in the rock are two Yew's and a Pyracantha, which are growing really well.

Berberis.

I think it is time for some more work on this Berberis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe tomorrow night if Tony and John do not bring anything to do.

Natter night 2nd July 2018.

I started my day with some work on yet another Itoigawa juniper.

Just a little maintenance to tidy up.

Graham brought a couple of trees to have some work done. this one a Pyracantha needed some dead branches removed, then some wiring and a little tweak.

Much neater and more compact now.

This one we were not sure about, Hornbeam or Elm ?but it was wired anyhow.

Needs a lot more growth but will make a nice image eventually.

Ken brought his Oak for some routine work, but it seems to be a little slow to start this year. Must be the heat, we are not used to it.

A good night with plenty of work and banter.
