Natter night 6th March 2017.

I have had a very busy day today and not just the usual busy night, as I have finished all the repotting I am doing this year, on my trees anyhow.

This second Procumbens Juniper is now in a new pot. It was in a rectangle but is now in this round pot.

Next to be done my Boulevard Cypress that was worked on with Bjorn Bjorholm last year.
Bjorn showed me the new planting angle to place the tree at.

Now repotted and I think it looks a lot better than it was.

Andy P brought this Pyracantha to work on, he thought of separating the two trees, but after a discussion it was decided just to alter the apex to create more taper in the tree.

It worked and now looks better.

Susan brought this Larch that was wired ready for a tweak.

This was the result.

Finally tonight this Cotoneaster Margery brought to be given it's first ceramic pot.

Amazing how much better it is in a decent pot.

Yes quite a long day but very satisfying.

Re-potting a Procumbens Juniper.

I have just finished re-potting a Procumbens Juniper this morning and even remembered to take photos from start to finish.

I start by sieving and grading my compost.

Large

Medium.

Small.

The left over dust.

Now the tree, the tying wires are cut.

Out of the pot and inspect the root ball.

Comb out the roots.

Use clean sharp shears to trim the roots.

Prepare pot with mesh and tying wires.

A layer of larger compost for drainage.

A small heap of medium compost.

The tree is then worked into the pot and the tying wire is nipped up just enough to hold it in place.

Then gently work new compost into the pot to make sure there are no air pockets.

A final tighten of the tying wire.

A top dressing is then applied.

A good water then place back on the display bench.

Well that is how I repot trees.

Hokey kokey time.

It is that time of year again where trees that have been repotted are kept in the greenhouse over night, but when the sun shines it is back outside on the benches for some nice rays.

Make the most of the sunshine when you can.

Pots.

Last night while at work Boxie phoned me to say that Dougies { Wattston Bonsai }container from Japan was arriving on Saturday morning and could we go up and help to unload.it. Being the helpful people we are we said yes, but it was a very early start again, 3-30 am as it was arriving at 6 am and we had to be thereby then.
Pots, trees and tools were duly unloaded and unpacked, while doing so I came across some Bigei pots and purchased another three for my collection.

My collection just keeps on growing.

Bonsai Thursday with Dave.

My day with Dave was a good one today as we worked on two of his Tanuki  Juniper's

This one was repotted last week.

The dead wood has been washed and had a couple of coats of Lime Sulpher applied.
It now looks more much better.

This one, Dave brought this morning, was covered in algae and was very dirty. It also did not have a pot, so after placing in this one it was washed and Lime Sulpher added to make it nice and clean.

I have added a little wire, just to enable the placement of the main branches.

Basic but looking good so far.

Larch update.

An update on this Chuhin sized Larch.

The buds started to show signs of movement about four weeks ago and are still going strong.
Some of them are now starting to open, so as the forecast is for frosty nights I have put it in the greenhouse to protect the new growth.
